During the process of converting a lower level play room into a contemporary media room, the homeowner decided that adding a bar was essential to the completion of the space. The room had been virtually unchanged since the knotty pine panels were installed in the 1930’s, and a bar would add comfort and additional functionality to the room.
The 7 foot long, “L” shaped bar was constructed and anchored to the concrete floor. Before attaching the front panels of the bar, the birch veneer bar top was coated with a thick layer of ABOGLASS™, clear epoxy coating. The application process of ABOGLASS includes pouring and spreading the syrupy coating and allowing excess material to drip off the edge. This creates a seamless, high-gloss finish that is smooth and highly reflective.
Utilizing a simple plastic drop cloth makes for easy clean up. The combination of the light bar top with the ABOGLASS finish contrasting with the dark wood tones on the bar front below makes a truly stunning visual appearance.
To complete the project, a brass foot rail was attached and knotty pine wood from elsewhere in the room was repurposed as shelving. The bar adds a gorgeous element to the space, and the ABOGLASS coating will protect the surface and make it shine for years!
