In the spring of 2014, the old armory building in downtown San Antonio, Texas, received a major facelift in preparation for its new tenants, the architectural and design teams of H-E-B. H-E-B is one of the largest independent food retailers in the nation and serves families throughout Texas and Mexico in 155 communities, with more than 340 stores and 76,000 employees.

One of the key components of this project was refurbishing twenty-one original 2-pane windows and two 4-pane windows, including complete restoration of the original 1841 hardware. Cross Construction Company was hired by Structure Tone, the general contractor, to complete these window repairs. The architectural plans called for the use of Abatron’s LiquidWood® and WoodEpox® for the window restoration. Ford, Powell & Carson, Architects and Planners, Inc., of San Antonio, was the specifier for this project. Cross Construction was familiar with Abatron’s wood repair products from previous restoration projects.

The scope of the project included consolidating rotted areas of wood, filling missing sections of wood, and reinstalling the original glass and hardware. The project took approximately four weeks to complete. The contractors who worked on restoring the windows really liked using LiquidWood® and WoodEpox®, because it was so easy to work with. They were also impressed with the cure-time and strength after application.
