Abatron | Customer Spotlight: Spectra Company

It is common knowledge that southern California is the ultimate American destination for beaches, boardwalks, and an endless supply of sunshine.  What is less-well-known is the vast collection of historically significant architecture, iconic landmarks, and buildings that California has amassed over the course of its rich history.  Spectra Company, in Pomona, California is doing everything it can to preserve these landmarks and make sure that these impressive structures remain intact and immaculate for generations to come.

Spectra has humble roots, having been founded by Ray Adamyk in 1985 as a small restoration contractor in Canada.  After moving to southern California, Spectra found its niche and began focusing on restoring and preserving historic buildings and structures.  They have since grown to an operation of over 90 employees including 75 field specialists and an office and management staff of 20.  This team of restoration experts usually manages anywhere from 15 to 20 projects at any given time.

Spectra has made a name for itself by becoming all-around experts when it comes to restoration and preservation.  Spectra’s list of services is expansive to say the least.  Waterproofing, plaster restoration, custom painting, finish carpentry, terrazzo and terra cotta repairs, and concrete and masonry restoration just begin to scratch the surface of their capabilities.

Abatron’s products were first introduced to Spectra in the late 1990’s when new Spectra employees from outside of southern California suggested using our LiquidWood® and WoodEpox® on a window and door restoration project.  Since then, the products have been a mainstay in the Spectra tool and supply warehouse, having been used on dozens of historic restoration projects.  The continued use and preference for the products is explained by Spectra Company President, Ray Adamyk:

“No other wood repair compound reacts to expansion and contraction and environmental changes so closely to natural wood.”

Some notable projects where Spectra has featured Abatron’s products include:

  • 28th Street YMCA, Los Angeles, CA – This project won the California Preservation Award.
  • The Fox Theatre, Fullerton, CA
  • Bob Hope Patriotic Hall, Lost Angeles, CA
  • Brand Library, Glendale, CA
  • Museum of Man, San Diego CA

Most recently LiquidWood and WoodEpox were utilized at a restoration project at Oak Park High School (Oak Park, California) on some structural columns that had deteriorated significantly.
