Plaster Washers

Plaster washers, also called plaster buttons, are perforated steel washers that reattach loose plaster to wood lath without tearing out the wall or ceiling. A screw goes through the center of the washer, through the plaster, and into the lath below. As you tighten the screw, the washer pulls the plaster back into firm contact with the lath and anchors it against further movement.

It's the go-to fix for sagging ceilings and bulging walls in older homes. Instead of demolishing original plaster, you secure it in place, patch over it, and move on.
